Google Local or more appropriately Google Local My Business carries with it the same general rules as when it was called Google Places or Google Plus Local.

  1. Sign up and optimize for Google Local My Business
  2. Make sure your sites branding matches that on Google and all other instances of your brand (see NAPs)
  3. Get lots of reviews. More than your competition.
  4. Get NAPS or Citations. A citation is your:
    Name
    Address
    Phone
    On every page of your site, and on key local and non local directories like Yelp, YP.com, and Zillow.
  5. Optimize your website for Google Local SEO.

1. The traditional 200 on page/on site elements. The most important? Title tag, H tags, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, cross linking within posts.

2. Inbound links. Nothing has changed except that links are not the only game in town and if you abuse them Google will abuse your site.
